In September 2024, our consortium started in Mauritania. The overall objective of this EU mission is to  support the energy transition, industrial development, and decarbonization of the Mauritanian economy by strengthening the human resources skills necessary for the development of the green hydrogen ecosystem. This will be achieved by (1) identifying the priority training needs of SNIM, ArcelorMittal, the Nour Project, and green hydrogen project leaders (initial and continuing training – FTP, technical, basic skills, management, training inspection, etc.) to support the development of their activities in, respectively, iron ore processing and decarbonization, and green hydrogen production; (2) conducting a diagnostic of existing training (all levels included) in Mauritania that meets the needs of the parties/ private stakeholders involved (3) developing an action plan with the necessary timeline and financial resources to structure and strengthen training opportunities in Mauritania; (4) proposing the elements necessary for the establishment of a national certification and qualification mechanism for the skills required for the accreditation of the training defined by the study.

In short, this study – carried out over a period of 6 months – provides the necessary information to strengthen training opportunities to support SNIM and H2 project leaders in the development of a green hydrogen production and recovery sector for iron ore processing and transportation.
